Internet Business: Do You Have To Like Your Niche In Order To Succeed?
There is an adage which says “Do what you love and the money will follow.”
But, do you really have to be passionate about your niche in order to do well in internet business?
Some people say you have to like your niche since if you don’t like your niche you would get bored sooner or later. Additionally, your topic is easier to grasp. Consequently, it’s easier to generate content and successfully communicate with your target audience.
But in certain cases, what you desire is not going to be profitable.
Some people don’t believe you have to like your niche to make good in online business.
For example, an alpha male online marketer never likes weddings but he makes a killing in that niche.
Some love their niche but still don’t succeed for the reason that they don’t really enjoy the process of business. They get bored to tears in what they’re doing after some time. These are the folks who still treat their business as a hobby.
So for those who thrive, some like their niche, some don’t. But to be successful apparently you do need to like the business process itself.
Associated to this matter is the choice of business model.
There are numerous business models possible but we can place them into two broad categories which we call “horizontal” and “vertical”.
In the horizontal business model, you shift from market to market, building websites and products to sell to unconnected industries until you have multiple sources of income. This model has shown successful for many individuals.
In the vertical business model, you go profound in one industry, creating excellent content. The important thing is market domination through constancy and long term asset building.
Those who favor to develop a meaningful connection with a community are inclined to select the vertical business model.
So which model is right for you?
It really depends on your personality and current life situation.
For instance, you can make money faster in the horizontal business model. Therefore, when you are just starting perhaps you can pick the horizontal business model.
However, many well-known gurus favor the vertical model. One business coach in fact, calls those who prefer the horizontal model as “underachievers” while calling those who pursue the vertical model as “overachievers”.
The financial and psychic rewards from doing the vertical business model can be quite significant. Since you are building something you care about, you are motivated to do uncommon things like writing new blog posts frequently for few years. That may sound too much of a chore. But if you’re passionate in what you’re doing, that’s more enjoyable than the 9 to 5 jobs for many people.
If you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life.
